Things I'm into these days

Inspiration: Acne Pre-S/S 2011. Thick heels make stilettos look like wimps. I'm tired of wedges too (that was fast). Besides, these would fare well on the Dutch cobblestones I tackle awkwardly on a nightly basis.

In descending order: Seychelles Cheerio boots, Jeffrey Campbell Bradley boots, Chloé leather lace-up boots, Jeffrey Campbell Lita boots (if you want to buy me these as a present, I'm a size 7 and go here and I'll love you forever).

Inspiration: Clémence Poesy. I like wide brim fedoras best, but why not have fun and go leather or cowgirl?

Descending: Maria from vanillascented, Acne Pre-S/S 2011, Urban Outfitters cooperative felt boater hat, ASOS wide brim fedora.

Inspiration: Nadia from FrouFrouu. This is the easiest more perfect summer look to go with a messy up-do. Just go out, find a little vintage $2 silky scarf, do a quick twice-over-wrap-around (makes sense to me?) and tie a knot at the top.

Descending: Alexander McQueen cashmere-blend skull-print scarf, Otrera Hamsa printed silk-chiffon scarf and Urban Outfitters floral print.

I want to dress like you

I always thought I wanted to dress like Audrey Hepburn. Skinny pants and flats, maybe a white dress shirt. I thought I wanted to be platinum gamine in stripes, shoulder-dusters and thick black kohl, like Edie Sedgwick. Wear suits like Diane Keaton, but be able to pull off that Jane Birkin see-through black minidress. I thought I wanted to dress like Ali MacGraw. Faye Dunaway. Catherine Deneuve. A little punk like Debbie Harry.

NOPE. Guess what. It turns out, I want to dress exactly like NADIA.

Even MORE shearling

Remember when I just couldn't shut up about shearling for fall? Turns out, I'm not done yet! Here are some shearling jackets from Acne pre-fall. What I like about these is how they're kind of oversized, like "this is my dad's old jacket I found in the attic" - especially that last one.

There's no doubt about it. Erin Wasson is pretty rad. Illustrations by Alia Tenner.

Hmm, could it be?

I realize it's wishful thinking. Wishful thinking that I'm this beautiful wispy nymph-like creature in Garance's illustration, wishful thinking that she'd use ME as her subject...but wishful thinking is alright sometimes. Maybe it's me with a different hair cut. Or me if I were a cartoon character. A cartoon character when I was 14?

On the topic of illustration, I'm working on a few of my own right now. After my camera died, I thought it would be fun and challenging to illustrate some of my recent outfits and post my drawings. And then I realized not only do I not have a scanner, I don't have a camera (Hello, it broke! Remember, Tu-Linh? It happened at the beginning of this paragraph!) to take pictures of the illustrations and post those. So for now, I have to keep you in suspense while I continue to draw.

Girls will be boys

I'll always be obsessed with women in menswear. Diane Keaton as Annie Hall is THE icon for this style, with her waistcoats and oversized blazers. Now, I prefer the look when it's less baggy, a bit more tailored to the female body and kind of retro rockabilly. Skinny trousers, white dress shirts with skinny black ties, oxfords and brogues and the nonchalantly tousled & flipped short hair.

Heat wave

I'm surviving a heat wave in Amsterdam (after escaping a heat wave in Montreal), the humidity and high temperatures rendering clothing an extraneous element in my life. Though, I have to say, this 10 Euro h&m white triangle string bikini is the best bikini I've ever had - not necessarily because of the style or quality, but because it fits me perfectly.

If anyone would like to join me, throw on your favourite bikini and meet me in the fridge.
xo Happy heat wave.

Shakuhachi Spring/Summer 2010/11

Ok, so maybe if Bambi Northwood-Blyth was modeling a collection of burlap sacks, I would still blog about it because I'm IN LOVE with her (along with EVERY OTHER blogger, I know). But here's an Aussie label I love for its laid back, breezy, beach-town vibe. I imagine myself leading a happy coastal life whilst donning a sheer floral jumpsuit. But Shakuhachi is so much more than just beach. It's sexy and  sophisticated in its details, like the cutouts of the maxi dress and the lace and sheer details in the last two dresses (love that pink bandage dress).

Acne pre-spring/summer 2011

I'm digging the big floppy leather hats, the chunky boots that AREN'T wedges (sorry Atacoma fans - I've always hated those), the pant suits, the long trench with the short shorts and this general "Cowgirl Assassin" look, which I'm sure are the EXACT WORDS the designers would use to accurately describe the collection (ha).
